Printed newspapers are waning in circulation

In the olden days, a newspaper is rated by its circulation, meaning the number of copies that the publisher prints in a day. But that method is not accurate anymore because readers are waning in favor of the digital version. Most newspaper readers I know say that they can read in full the newspaper in the internet, right on the website of the newspaper network. What they mean is the news is just the same whether it is in printed form or in the digital form. So why buy the printed form when the internet version is for free?
